Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in partnership with Secure Futures, a solar power business, are looking for three institutions that are interested in implementing a solar project.

Since winning a $50,000 grant from the Department of Energy’s SunShot program earlier this year, MCC and Secure Futures have been cooperating on two solar projects: a 51.75 kW addition to an already existing solar array on the Harrisonburg Gift & Thrift (a shop in the MCC Thrift Network) and a 48 kW solar array soon to be installed on the MCC Material Resources Center in Ephrata, PA. The terms of the grant require that three additional institutions be identified for the installation of solar arrays in 2018. They are seeking institutions that:

  • Are located in the PJM electric grid;
  • Have newer flat roofs;
  • Are able to be under contract by the end of 2017, with the intent of being built in 2018;
  • Ideally are Mennonite/Anabaptist institutions which already have a connection to MCC.

In addition to receiving help with planning and administration costs, the projects can benefit from the solar barn raising model used to install solar panels on the projects mentioned above.  Read about the grant.   For more information and to discuss possibilities,, 717-859-1151 or
